Let’s Make a Movie
Hollywood has been making movies for over a century. In that time, they’ve developed a workflow–a system for dreaming up and making movie magic. Our company, Carpe and Zen Productions, isn’t in Hollywood. We haven’t been making movies for a hundred years. We’re friends who decided we wanted to do it our way.
My name is Jacob and my business partner is Joseph. We met sometime around 8th grade or 9th grade during a play. I say “some time” because I don’t think either one of us can remember exactly when we met. The great thing about that play is that it was part of a theatre program to serve the youth of our community. It was community theatre at its finest.
Joseph and I, we like that model, but we don’t want to do theatre, we want to make a movie. Lots of movies actually. We want to use the community theatre model to turn our little town into our own private Hollywood.
We want to use the talent that is already here to make movies for the people here. Sure, we’d love to make big movies that are seen across the globe, but we want to serve our community first. Film by the community for the community.
We’re starting in 2020.
Beginning in January, we are going to make a feature-length film based on a play I wrote in college called, Ace of Hearts. I’ve just finished rewriting the play and I hope to polish the script in the coming weeks. Once we finalize a few other things, we’d like to start casting, rehearsing, shooting, and editing. When I say we though, I would love for that to include more than just Joseph and I. I want that to include as many people as possible.
If you are interested in being part of the process, join the community. If you want to act, we’ll find a place for you. If you have talents behind the camera, we’d love to use them. If you are interested in helping to fund or make connections for us, we’d love your help. We want to make film for the community by the community.
We’re starting soon, are you in?
